Is Community Cancer Association part of a larger organization?

Community Cancer Association is an independent local organization. It is a designated 501(c)3 non-profit having been granted that status by the IRS in 1961. The organization has been continuously operating in that capacity for 50 years.

What does Community Cancer Association do?

Community Cancer Association provides financial assistance to cancer patients by:

  • helping pay for medicines that treat or fight the patient’s cancer;
  • helping with the purchase of medical supplies and other products necessitated by the patient’s cancer;
  • assisting with travel expenses for medically necessary consultation or treatment; and
  • providing information regarding other resources possibly available and advice on accessing these services.

How is Community Cancer Association funded?

Community Cancer Association is primarily locally funded receiving support from:

  • United Way
  • Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center
  • Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
  • Other local foundations and organizations
  • Individual and corporate donors

What are the eligibility requirements?

There are three criteria for determining eligibility for assistance:

  • Diagnosis – Must have a current diagnosis of cancer.
  • Income – Household income must not exceed 200% of the current Federal Poverty Guidelines.
  • Residency – Must be a legal resident of McLennan County, Texas and have resided there for at least 6 months. Due to additional funding from the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, currently patients with breast cancer in Bell, Bosque, Coryell, Falls, and Milam counties meeting the same residency requirements are also eligible for services.

How will your donation be used?

Your donation will be used exclusively for the provision of direct financial assistance to cancer patients in this community.

How can you be confident that you are dealing with a reputable organization and that your donation is be used as intended?

You are encouraged to examine the history of the agency, its current operations and financial safeguards.

  • Oversight
    • Community Cancer Association is governed by an independent, rotating 21 member board of directors who oversee the operations and institute financial safeguards.
    • Community Cancer Association is a participating agency of United Way of Waco-McLennan County and subject to their reporting requirements and oversight.
  • Financial Controls
    • Check writing and check signing functions are separated.
    • Accounting services are performed by an outside accounting firm.
    • A separate accounting firm performs an annual audit.
  • Track Record
    • Community Cancer Association has been faithfully helping people in this community for 50 years and being good stewards of all that has been entrusted to it.
